Rio Tinto EIR Replacement Project

Client: ABB for Rio Tinto Iron Ore
Location: Paraburdoo, WA
Date Completed: November 2014

Cables Australia was chosen to supply the following HV cable for the Paraburdoo EIR Replacement Program.
1700m of 19/33kV 3C300mm2 CU/XLPE/CWS(13KA/s)/PVC/DBT/HDPE
519m of 19/33kV 3C185mm2 CU/XLPE/CWS(10KA/s)/PVC/DBT/HDPE

To ensure absolute transparency with quality compliance, Cables Australia arranged the following additional services;
- Lloyds of London external certification
- Cables Australia’s General Manager personally witnessed factory testing and loading
- Extra testing including aging and high voltage a.c. tests
- Sample lengths air freighted to site prior to delivery

Cables Australia was engaged by ABB to supply cable, to replace non-conforming cable at site, which had been sourced from another vendor. The cable was required for an Electrical Infrastructure Replacement project at Paraburdoo in Western Australia’s remote North West. 1700m of 19/33kV 300mm2 3 core cable, and approximately 500m of 19/33kV 185mm2 3 core cable was required by ABB in a short turnaround time.

Being aware of the importance of this cable’s compliance and quality, Cables Australia’s ABB account manager personally attended the factory acceptance testing, and loading of the cable to ensure there were no hidden issues. Cables Australia provided full test reports and effected delivery of the cable direct to site within the agreed lead time, keeping ABB informed of the progress throughout the whole process. Both ABB and our client, Rio Tinto were very satisfied with the outcome.
